Registration is NOW CLOSED. Sorry if you didn’t get in – we’ll be in touch when the third cohort is ready.

What is Codestars University?

For a monthly membership, you will get access to a raft of benefits and services, centering around one-on-one mentoring to help you achieve your dreams. You will get the following:

  • an initial Skype consultation with a highly qualified advisor to establish your goals and needs
  • a detailed step-by-step guide written by me on building a career in web & app development
  • 24/7 email support to help you progress as quickly as possible
  • weekly email check-ins to make sure you’re smashing your targets
  • monthly Skype sessions to reassess your progress and goals
  • when you’re ready, help with your CV/portfolio and access to our network of recruiters (we’ll even write you a reference!)
  • access to the exclusive Codestars University online group where you can get advice and help from mentors and other students

PLUS:

  • access to all my courses
  • a free upgrade to the Eco Web Hosting Reseller package
  • exclusive career advice written by me
  • my exclusive reading list – one book per month to help you create and achieve your goals
  • likely a bunch of other benefits as we get more feedback from you guys!

The whole idea is to guide and encourage you along your personal journey to get to where you want to be.

As you can imagine, this is not a cheap option. It’s also not open to everyone – we’ll only be taking in a very limited number of students (likely 25) to make sure you get all the attention and support that you need.

Codestars University will be $200 per month, and we suggest you sign up for either 6 or 12 months – there’s nothing like putting down some hard cash to force yourself to do the work!

Any questions? Please post them below and I’ll reply as quickly as possible.

I created Codestars University to help students like you get to where you want to be as quickly as possible – I can’t wait to see what you guys achieve with it!

Are these your Udemy courses that I am paying 200 dollars for, because I own a few already or are these other courses?? Also are these live if they are not or are they recorded. What languages are you teaching in these courses?

Hi Nuno! The Udemy courses themselves aren’t a primary part of this – they are just a little extra. You’ll get a license for each of my courses (Web, iOS 9, Android, Apple Watch, OOP), so if you already have some of them, you can give the license to someone else if you’d like. I can only offer the English ones for free I’m afraid, as the others aren’t run directly by me.

It’s the mentorship that is the primary aspect of CU – the courses are really just a bonus!

    Hello!

I am already a career programmer, but have my own side projects/ambitions. I am hoping to use this option as kind of a “programmer therapy” to help me figure out what sort of direction I want to take as far as indie projects, and software development. What sort of person will I be talking to in these Skype sessions, and what kind of questions/advice can I hope to expect?

    Thanks,
    Seth

That sounds perfect Seth! Your mentor will be someone who has worked in this field for at least 10 years, and will have direct access to me, so anything they can’t answer I will help out with. The course will primarily focus on establishing your dev-related goals, and then working out the best ways for you to achieve them (and finally nagging you until you do!). Hope that helps :)

    Hi,

I already work as a web/cms developer full time but would like to focus on front end and mobile dev. What kind of time commitment do you think would be required for Codestars? I know it will vary depending on experience but it would be good to know how many hours per week you think we would need to set aside.

    Thanks

    Chris

Good question Chris! You can put as much time in as you are able really, but I’d put a baseline of 5 hours a week to make sure you get your money’s worth.

    Hi,

I am currently a SalesForce/Skuid developer and need to improve my knowledge of Javascript and Jquery. Will this course go into depth in those two areas? Also, any help in applying Java within an application would be super helpful. Thank you!

That’s fine – remember though this isn’t a coding course in itself – it’s an aid in focusing on your career goals and getting them achieved. You can learn Javascript/jQuery in the web dev course, and Java in the Android course, this is to support you in achieving your goals alongside that.

I already own the web dev course but I am looking for someone to help guide me through, and bounce questions off of. Will the mentors have advanced expertise in JavaScript?

        Thanks!

    Hello Rob,

I think this is a fantastic opportunity for anyone. However, would you recommend “lodestars” to anyone that is currently off at school, more particularly college students who already have a lot on their plates. I just want to make sure the workload isn’t overbearing especially for someone who wants to be fully invested into this.

Yes I think this would actually work really well for college students. You’ll get out what you put in (as always!) but the combination of real world coding skills and career/goal advice and support are two things universities don’t usually do that well, so I think it would complement your studies perfectly.

    Hi,

If students mainly focus on the mobile app development (not so much about web app), do mentors have strong experience in mobile app?

    Regards,

Thanks Tony! We can’t guarantee that the mentor will be an expert in that particular field but they will have broad experience (and, again, access to me for anything they can’t answer). They will definitely be able to advise and focus you on your goals regardless though. Hope that helps!

    Hi Rob,
I am interested to know more about the curriculum of the program such as which programming languages will be taught and which companies do you have networks with, and how would i be able to land a job. Also how do you determine when I am job ready that you can help me with CV and searching jobs. Finally how long will the skype session will be held and how often.

    Thanks

Hi Ziv, this program is about support and help reaching career goals – the Udemy courses themselves will be used to teach programming. It’s recruiters rather than companies that we are working with at this point – how we would help you find a job depends on your skills, experience and location. The Skype sessions will be 30 minutes, once a month, and the rest of the support will be done over email. Hope that helps!

Are the recruiters you are working with based in the UK? I live in the US. I actually own 3 of your courses on Udemy already and am wondering if this might not be for me. I own the Web, IOS and Android courses so it sounds like i already have most of what Codestar University is offering but am still interested but not sure if i should because i already own most of the courses already and dont want to pay a monthly subscription for stuff i already own

Hi Derrick, we’re building our network in the UK and the US at the moment. Completely up to you if this is for you, but it’s very much separate to the courses – it’s all about establishing your career goals and helping you achieve them. If you think that will help you, then come on board!

    hey,

I’m not sure I’m understanding what this course is correctly. is it helping teaching coding or just the career side?
I’m very much a novice at coding (I’ve played around with a number of languages, just bits a pieces though), and would need guidance to get up to scratch for career advice to be useful.
coding has always been something I want a career in just never got it going, was hoping this would be that kick up the arse so to speak

    thanks!

Career guidance is the main thing – we’ll help with the coding where we can but it’s the softer skills of setting and achieving goals that we’ll be focussing on. Kick up the arse is definitely something we can provide!

I already own some of your courses as well that I already completed them. I feel like I am looking for help in the recruiting process more than the learning. Would I be able to use this course just for networking and assisting finding job, and how long would this process take?

I suspect this is not quite for you in that case – I definitely recommend having 12 months in mind, this is really about working towards achieving your goals rather than just applying for jobs ASAP (you could do that without us!). The value we will provide exists in getting you to a place where you can apply for your perfect job, or get freelance work or start your own business. If you’re already there I suspect you won’t need us. :)

It is definitely the career advice I’m interested in – I’ve been running my own business creating WordPress websites for SME’s for 8 months now (I was a chemistry teacher before that).

I’m pretty tough on myself and frequently feel out of my depth when things go wrong – so I really need a kick to work smarter and have the time to study in order that my confidence will grow and I know what I’m doing! (I already own your udemy courses, half-started). I’m (I suspect) undercharging clients, and taking too long to complete projects. On the plus side, my clients love me and I get lots of word-of-mouth work. I’m close to throwing in the towel but I really want to love this career!

I have two young kids that I have to take to and pick up from school – so it’s usual that I work all day, all evening after they’re in bed, and most weekends – and I’m burning myself out.

Do you think this ongoing coaching programme is right for me? I’m worried about taking on too much. Also, is there a minimum term to sign up for? 6 months? 12?

    Thanks in advance

This sounds perfect for you! We’ll definitely do our best to advise on charging correctly (in short: charge more!) and avoiding burnout (in short: do less!), and I think we’d be able to support you really well where you are right now. No minimum term, but I’d have 6-12 months in your mind to make the most of it.

    Hi,

I have one of your courses(“The Complete iOS 9 Developer Course – Build 18 Apps”), and I’m spanish although right now I live and work in Switzerland.

I would like to know if you offer the possibility(in the future of course) to find a job after achieving our goals.

I am working right now but I would like also to be able to create iOS apps(that´s why I bought your course), and also websites, why not.

    Thanks
